Although diamonds are a truly beautiful there are so many gorgeous coloured gemstones out there that don't really get any attention.
Aquamarine has the same composition as Emerald and is part of the Beryl mineral group.
It has a beautiful Sea Green colour, making a perfect stone for any Ocean Lovers out there.

It has a hardness of 7.5 - 8 on the Moh's Scale of Hardness which means it is suitable for careful everyday wear. You'd take it off to do the gardening and need to keep it spearate from any diamond or sapphire jewelery in your treasure box, as those gemstones are harder and would scratch the surface.
It makes a great stone for earrings or pendants as we tend to be more careful of our ears and out throats than we are of our poor old hands.
Many lesser quality stones are subject to heat treatment to enhance the colour. But the colour change is permanent so this is only an issue for the purists.
The most significant deposits come from Brazil, Russia and Australia.
