I went to a friends wedding in Darwin and this was their wedding cake..!!
Made by a friend of theirs! Like, with their bare hands..
All those little leaves and petals and bugs were edible!!
It was awesome.
I'd never been compelled to actually take a photo of a cake before.
This is not just a mix of flour and sugar and eggs.
This was a work of art.
It was delicious.
Three months ago the Best Man was a greedy carnivore who used to embarass us at Smorgasboards.
But then he decided to lose some weight and became a strict vegan.
I only found this out yesterday afternoon. When he called to see if there would be any vegan options at the wedding.
At first I thought he was joking because he always said he couldnt stand vegetarians. But he is serious. He's been doing it for 12 weeks and has lost 15kgs.

I spoke to our Caterer who was pretty upfront. They don't really do vegan catering.
We have already made some changes to provide vegetarian options but the BBQ dishes we have chosen are going to be pretty hard to adapt to the strict vegan criteria (no animal anything) and we're don't really want to change our whole menu.
But we need to ensure BestMan is well fed.
So what we think we'll have to do is find a specialist Vegan cafe or resturant, so we can buy him some food which we can drop to the Caterer the night before to be served alongside the other food at our wedding. We have a one other Vegetarian friend who would probably be happy to go Vegan for the day so we will be catering for just two people..
Can anybody suggest any places in Perth, who do nice vegan fingerfood, cocktail food and desserts?
I would be so grateful for any ideas or suggestions!
I am quite a fan of edible favours. I think homemade goodies get extra points. Biscuits are a good idea as easy to make en masse and they can be cut into whatever shapes you want.

It seems like there are lots of boring wedding decisions to be made lately.. but one but one recent highlight was chosing our desserts.
Can't remember if I already mentioned it... but Future Mother in Law decided that she didn't want to do our desserts after all (which is totally fair enough), and I got talked out of cupcakes (more expensive and less practical than I thought)..
So we are doing petit fours and we chose four different types. We have kept it pretty safe and stuck to old favourites- little vanilla cheesecakes, mini lemon meringues, chocolate mudcake and mini fruit tartlets.
So something like this below...

They are being made by Regines Patisserie that uses only fresh ingredients, real milk and butter so they should taste divine!
I don't know why minituare versions of everyday objects are so much more fascinating than normal sized versions!
I think these little iddy bitty cakes are so cute.

I don't even normally like roast pork!...
But I do like the pewter crockery, the light cotton tablecloths, the sturdy cutlery and of course the native sprigs in simple vases

We get to BYO alcohol to our reception, which is great because we save money and can chose whatever we want. Like wine from the family vineyard and our favourite boutique beers
But we are still umming and ahhing wether or not to serve spirits at our wedding

Lots of our guests would love rum or vodka or bourbon.. including the Mr.. And it would be nice to have your favourite drink served at a wedding. But I'm just worried about it getting too messy.
I'm thinking most people would probably be happy with beer and wine, especially as we will have the freedom to chose the ones that we know people will like... but also can't help but wonder if we shouldnt make the most of our BYO freedom to serve some harder options..

My future Mother-in-laws family. They have a vineyard and winery in Mount Barker, Gilberts Wines, where we considered having our wedding but didn't because Mount Barker is just a little bit far.
But we thought it would be a really nice touch to serve their wines at our wedding.
They have lots of experience with weddings and are helping us work out the best crowd pleasing combinations to serve at the wedding. Yay for family!

I like the idea of a luxurious arrangement of fruit doubling as a table feature and a healthy dessert option. Those grapes are making my mouth water.
I wouldn't have been able to imagine how a pile of fruit or vege could work as a table centrepiece until I saw these pictures! How nice does this look?

Since embarking on my wedding diet I have cake on the brain.
Yesterday I found the Cake Wrecks blog and I can't stop laughing. (It's sort of like Go Fug Yourself but for cakes)
