Why oh why after seeing this beautiful wedding, am I left feeling that I will be incomplete without a maypole at my wedding?

Because they are gorgeous and festive and fun for everybody, thats why.

And as if the fluttering coloured ribbons aren't enough, is that some origami I spy?

The tradition of dancing around a maypole is often associated with the mid summer solstice, May Day, or if you go further back into pagan history sexual celebration and fertility rites. (eek thats enough wine for you Aunty Shirl) 

And wouldn't a strikingly patterned maypole, woven by your dancing guests be an extra special memento from your wedding..?

Picnic Tables

If you have only recently started reading you won't be aware of my long unwavering love of picnic tables.

 Lets take a moment to appreciate the epitome of casual cool. The kind of table that says "hey just relax- if you are hungry eat, if you thristy drink, if you want to lick your knife go ahead"

I just want to sit down and not get up! It looks like such an appealing place to chill out and eat nice fresh food and icy cold drinks and wait for the dancing to start

Last week we had some stylish veggie centrepieces, today we have fruity ones!

I like the idea of a luxurious arrangement of fruit doubling as a table feature and a healthy dessert option. Those grapes are making my mouth water. 
 

Yay flags

I think these are a really cute idea. How festive to look out at a sea of waving 'YAY' flags!

Glam Portaloos

Ok not a subject for polite company as my Grandma would say, but it's worth a mention.

I saw an advert for VIP Restrooms in last weeks newspaper and I'm really happy this kind of service is available in WA!

Three Cheers for Portaloos that aren't rank!!

They actually look even better than not rank.. I'd say they look even pleasant.

Flowers, artwork, big mirrors, counter for fixing hair and makeup.. noice.

 
  
This would be a great option for those who are considering a big backyard or country wedding and need a bit of extra bathroom space... We considered a few more remote venues that required portable toilets and in each case decided not too because I didn't like the idea of portaloos bringing the event down.

Venue Inspiration

I had to look twice when I saw this wedding on Snippet & Ink because it is sort of what I am aspiring to with our wedding reception..

We have an open sided pavillion in the the bush, and its not quite as nice as this one (no lush lawns or wooden beams) but I'm hoping we can use lighting, lanterns, etc to create an equally inviting effect

Palette Generator

I saw this Palette Generator quite a while ago on Polka Dot Bride, but only just got around to having a go.

It's useful. And easy. And it's quite of fun.

You just upload any photo and it gives you the colours that match or compliment the main colours in that pic.

 How handy.. especially for those of us who do not have a keen eye for colour but still want things to look good.

I actually really like all three of the palettes generated from these images.

The less wedding related the better they seem to turn out.

There is something so deliciously indulgent about dessert buffets!

Red ribbons are always going to be an eye-catching touch!

Fun and sexy and sweet all rolled into one. My favourites are small bows in unexpected places..

Magical Outdoor Soiree

This really look like my kind of party. And even though I think its actually some amazing mountaintop venue in California you could easily transform a nice big backyard into something this special.

The open sky, the lights strung high, the outdoor dining..
