I think it is a really nice way to keep an absent loved one close to your heart on your wedding day, or any day.

I'm really excited because I've got a hair trial with the lovely Thiana Sperry who is also doing my wedding makeup!
So now I've got to think about how I want my hair.
As usual my problem is there are too many things I like but of course I can only chose one.
My main dilema is wether to have fringe wept to the side, or fringe swept back
here are the cases for and against
Fringe to the side:
I just love the way these all look relaxed hairstyles.. not too fussy just nice and easy.
The only thing is I have two very strong cowlicks at the front of my head which don't really want to stay in this sort of position
For that reason I usually just pin my fringe back in a quiffesque style and thinking that it might work for wedding day as well, and here is the case for the finge pinned back
So part of me thinks that it may be best to go fringe back which is more in line with my usual look.. and isn't fighting my hairs natural tendancy as much
Okay but that is not my only dilema! I like the idea of my hair sort of pulled into a low and loose bunch at the nape of my neck.. but then I see these styles and think maybe I should totally rock a ponytail.
My hair is unfortunately very straight, rather fine and no where near as voluminous as I'd like it to be, so if I do go down the ponytail path I'm actually thinking about getting one of those clip on hair things just to give myself some more body out the back.
Other considerations:
Dress. It is greccian like with halter-like neckline which I try to describe here
Headgear. I think I will be wearing just a little puff of tulle on the side of my head, a bit like the one this bride is wearing.
Earrings. I have got some big and beautiful chandelier earrings. I mean really big. And they are colourful. And beautiful. (I will fill you in on those later)
A girl at work just got engaged while she was on sick leave.
She was actually meant to be on holiday leave, but came down with serious illness a couple of days before they were due to go to Europe and they had to cancel it. Her boyfriend had planned to propose in Paris but did it in Narrogin local hospital instead.
She is totally okay now and got back to work yesterday. She has filled us in on the juicy details of the proposal, family & friend reactions, showing off her beautiful ring.. She is still buzzing with excitement and it is contagious! (unlike her her illness, thankfully)
Seeing her so giddy reminded me of just how awesome those first few weeks of engagement are.. there is nothing like it!
I'm sure being newly married will feel pretty amazing as well.. but newly engaged is its own kind of special.

My favourite part of getting engaged was telling people the good news.. Even though I'd mentioned our ring shopping to a couple of my nearest and dearest, it was fun surprising everyone else with the breaking news. And I was really touched by how stoked everyone was for us
And even better I loved listening to the Mr announcing the news to his friends and family.. He sounded so excited and proud and phrased it 'We're getting married!!', (rather than 'we got engaged!!' which was how I said it) but hearing those words from him was so nice. ahhhh

I bought my wedding dress a month or so ago
I've been holding out on you because I kept falling in and out of love with it.
But its all good now because I am back in love and this time the love is here to stay!
My ambivalence was the result of a couple of things-
The first mistake I made was showing anyone who was interested the unflattering picture of me wearing it in the shop... and then having to deal with a few lukewarm reactions. The majority of folk were overwhelmingly positive, but you know how it's always the no-so-positive responses that stick in your mind.
And so the doubts started to creep in.. mainly centered on the neckline, which is a bit different to what I had been sub-consciously imagining myself in.. a bit more modest and a bit more modern.. and I've had to get used to the idea in something other than what I first thought.
But all the umming and ahhing was resolved simply by going back to shop to try it on again. And instead of going on my own, my darling sister came with me. As soon as I put it on I remembered why I had bought it so decisively in the first place. It is simple, elegant, flattering and relaxed and I felt like myself in it.
My Sis gave it two thumbs up, and when I walked out of there I couldn't care less if the guy from work who wears board shorts with explorer socks doesn't like it.
Now.. I have searched high and low for an on-line picture of my dress. But one doesn't seem to exist.
You have to believe that I would not be doing myself or the dress any favours by posting the photo of me wearing it.. The dress needs to be altered to fit properly and as a general rule I shouldn't let people take my picture if I haven't washed my hair. The change room lighting was harsh and it doesn't do the dress justice
So instead here are three pictures- none of which are of my dress.. but all of which have similarities! So you need to imagine a combination of these styles. (I'm being frustrating I know)
My dress sort of has the thick straps of the Matthew Eager dress, the draped layers and similar skirt to the Colette Dinnigan one and slouchy goodiness of J.Crew dress.. It's like a hybrid of the three.
It is off the rack from Elle Boutique in Nedlands, where it will live until I get it altered a few weeks before the wedding. After that I will leave it at my Grandmas because she has the cleanest house I know, so I won't have to worry about it getting marks on it.

Bit hard to see.. but those red flower sandals, 3rd from the left are so cool.
Both my Bridesmiads have said they prefer to wear flats.. mainly for comfort reasons (and everyone a little wary of the gravel) and I think this shows that flats have their own kind of laid back glamour!
Spring has well and truly sprung in Perth
The footys over, my garden is started to come alive, there are brides & grooms lined up at the blue boathouse... It's stinking hot one day, rather chilly the next..
I have been to a few spring weddings and although the sun is usually out there it doesnt take long to cool off once the sun goes down.. If I were an October Bride (or Bridesmaid) I would be thinking about a cosy dress.. or have a styling shrug nearby to keep me warm..

It was my Cousins wedding on Saturday.
The ceremony was held in my Uncles front yard where we've been heaps of time.. but walking up the driveway and seeing the yard set up for the ceremony, it took on a very different feel.. it was breathtaking!
I find there is something quite moving about seeing rows of chairs of lined up for a wedding ceremony. You know something big is about to happen!
It's instantly recognizable and pwerful scene and even the plainest of chairs take on a their own kind of beauty!
I think going overboard with organza, chair covers, pom poms, arches, flower petals can clutter a ceremony space and sometimes dimish the effect. (I think for this reason I'm often drawn to simple dresses, simple hair, simple food etc)

Less really is more with a lot of these things
The word "Bohemian" gets bandied around a lot (by people like me!) and is usually used to refer to a style that is 'characterised by unconvential and artistic detail'.
If you delve into the history books (or Wikipedia) you'll find Bohemia was a historical kingdom in Central Europe, occuping mostly what is now the Czech Republic.
During Victorian times it was fahionable for people of means to adorn their clothes with gemstones, and garnets were at the height of popularity, particularly the Pyrope Garnets found in Bohemia; with their deep red colour (due to their Mg content) and light refraction, they were favoured by kings and queens.
The typical design for that time was for close-set gemstones dominating the setting, with minimal metal showing through. Ref Antique Gold & Jewels
So it is these characteristic clusters of Pyrope Garnets which are indicative of authentic Bohmeian Jewellery.
Which means.. if you want some genuine boho action you should get yourself something like these!

Garnet come in a few different colours..
The Pyrope garnets mentioned above owe their red colour to the Magnesium content.
Aldmandine garnets are the iron rich member and usually have a violet tint to their red hue.
Spessartite is coloured by Manganese and are a characterisitc orange to organge red.
Grossular Garnets range in colour from green to yellow to brown and have Calcium in their chemical compositon.
