I sent a few emails out last week to some Florists.
Just trying to suss out what sort of native flowers would be in bloom for our March wedding next year.
Apparently Autumn is a bad time for Australian flowers.
One florist told me my best bet would be silk flowers. Another told me that I could have anything I wanted but the flowers would be dried. The most positive response was one telling me I could have a bouquet of gum leaves and honky nuts.
Supposedly March is the month of death as far as Australian flora is concerned.
So I have been resigning myself to holding a bunch of leaves and nuts (which actually wouldnt be the end of the world) when I noticed something.
It is mid-March and there are native blossoms everywhere. I mean in bushes growing in people gardens and in the parks and on the side of the road.
I actually took my camera out, walked 50m out the street and took some photos to prove it.
My wedding is almost exactly a 12 months away. So unless all these blossoms suddenly wither up and drop off in the next week I dont see why it wouldnt be possible to have some gum blossoms in my bouquet this time next year?? Those actually look like new buds on those red blossoms so in 10 days time (exactly 1 yr from wedding date) I imagine there would be even more blossoms...
Are these florists lying to me? Am I missing something? Would it be wrong to pick your wedding flowers from the roundabout out the front of your house?
